Big Blue Women’s Basketball Rally Falls Short at Elmhurst

          The Millikin women's basketball team's fourth quarter rally fell two points short as the Big Blue lost at Elmhurst College 55-53 on January 31 in Elmhurst, Illinois.
          Millikin led 14-11 at the end of the first quarter.  The Bluejays then rallied to build a 26-20 advantage at halftime.  Both teams scored 21 points in the third quarter leaving Elmhurst with a 47-41 lead heading into the final quarter.  The Big Blue stayed close and cut the lead to four points on a Yanni Saddler layup making it 55-51 with 3:06 left in the game.  After an Elmhurst turnover, Saddler would score again to cut the lead to 55-53 with 2:27 remaining.   The Big Blue would only get off one more shot in the final two minutes committing two turnovers and leaving its rally two points shy of tying the game.
          Millikin shot 41 percent from the field and hit on 3-8 from three-point range.  Millikin was 6-10 at the free throw line.  Elmhurst shot 36 percent and made only 1-12 from three-point range.  The Bluejays went 12-15 from the free throw line.  Elmhurst won the rebounding battle 38-33. 
          Emily Schultz led Millikin with 12 points and six rebounds.  Haley Toohill added 10 points.  Saddler finished the night with eight points and five rebounds.
          Lisa Logan led Elmhurst with 16 points.
          Millikin falls to 5-14, 0-10 while Elmhurst goes to 12-8, 8-3.
