The Millikin University volleyball team traveled to Wheaton, Illinois to take on the Thunder of Wheaton College and the University of Dubuque.
The Big Blue was victorious in their first match, defeating Wheaton College in four sets (16-25, 30-28, 25-19, 25-21). With the victory, Millikin moved to 2-3 in CCIW play.
Peyton Jackson led the attack for the Big Blue, tallying 21 kills. Both Rose Syversen and Emily Seegmiller added 11 kills. Marissa McElroy was vital to Millikin's defensive effort with five blocks. Syversen also added 46 assists, and Alyssa Vignos dug up 20 of Wheaton's attacks.
In their second match of the day, the Big Blue was bested by the University of Dubuque in four sets (18-25, 25-18, 11-25, 20-25). Seegmiller and Gabrielle Coulthard led Millikin at the net with 12 kills, and Syversen tallied 31 more assists. Maddie Sielski was the team's leader in digs with 18 and Kelsey McAtee added 16.
The Big Blue's record sits at 10-14 with the split. They will be back in action on Tuesday, October 16 at the Griswold Center in Decatur against the Blue Jays of Elmhurst College.
