Big Blue Men Close Out 2018 with Victory

         The Millikin men's basketball team closed out 2018 with an 84-78 win at the University of Chicago on December 30.
         After a strong start to the game for the Big Blue, the University of Chicago rallied and took a 37-33 at halftime. Millikin trailed by eight with 18 minutes left in the game before mounting a comeback. Millikin went on a 19-6 run and lead 55-50 with 11:25 remaining on a three-pointer by Jack Marinko.  Chicago would tie the game at 55-55, before the Big Blue pulled ahead. A Zach Fisher three-pointer gave the Big Blue a 69-59 advantage with 6:14 remaining in the game.  Millikin would let that lead slip away and the game was tied at 74-74 with 2:05 left to play. Zach Fisher would score Millikin's next six points to give the Big Blue some breathing room at 80-76 with just over one minute remaining. Two free throws by Korbin Farmer made it 82-76 with 31 seconds remaining.
         Millikin shot 51 percent from the field including making 12-29 (41 percent) from three-point range. The University of Chicago made 42 percent of its shots, but hit only 8-30 (27 percent) from three-point range.
The Big Blue dominated the rebounding battle 45-28.
         Zach Fisher led the Big Blue with 30 points and six rebounds. DaVante Harrell added 14 points and a team high nine rebounds. Elijah Henry had 11 points and eight rebounds. Calvin Fisher added nine points and six rebounds.
         The University of Chicago got 20 points from Dominic Laravie followed by 19 from Cole Schmitz and 18 from Jordan Baum.
         Millikin is now 7-5 on the season while the University of Chicago falls to 7-4.
         Millikin will return to College Conference of Illinois action on Saturday, January 5 when they travel to Carthage College.
