Millikin Baseball Downs Illinois College

          The Millikin baseball team defeated Illinois College 4-1 on March 19 in Jacksonville, Illinois.
Millikin got on the board in the fourth inning. The Big Blue used walks for Jake Drada and Jon Walters and a hit by pitch from Julian Gutierrez to load the bases.  Luke McConnell then delivered a two-run single to get the scoring started.  Luke Azzarelli followed with an RBI single to make it 3-0 Millikin.  Mason Bruce hit his third home run of the season in the seventh to make it a 4-0 lead.  Azzarelli was 2-4 for the Big Blue.
          Connor Gross pitched a gem for the Big Blue going six and two-thirds innings allowing five hits and no runs while striking out 11. Reliever Michael Staszcuk struck out the only batter he faced and Jared Buzan allowed one hit in no runs in the eighth inning.  Nick Followell closed out the game for Millikin allowing two hits and a run, but he was able to shut down the Illinois College ninth rally securing the victory for Millikin.
          Joe Paparelli and Austin Gusewell each had two hits for Illinois College.  Mason Durdel drove home the Blueboy run in the ninth.
          Millikin is now 9-4 on the season while Illinois College falls to 7-4.
          The Big Blue host MacMurray College on Thursday, March 21 at 4 p.m. at Sunnyside Park.
