Millikin Baseball Edges Highlanders

          The Millikin baseball team defeated MacMurray College 2-1 on March 22 at Sunnyside Park in Decatur, Illinois.
          Millikin got on the board in the fourth inning.  Anthony Bryan opened the inning with a single and later scored on a run scoring single from Julian Gutierrez.
          MacMurray tied the game in the sixth on a Nick Balkenbusch sacrifice fly.
          The Big Blue would score the game winner in the eighth inning.  Seth Coffey opened the inning with a single and scored on a double from Bryan.  Bryan and Devin Crews were 2-4 at the plate for Millikin.
          Both teams got excellent pitching.  Freshmen Brent Beals (3-1) picked up the win in relief throwing four innings allowing one hit and one unearned run while striking out five.  Junior Nick Followell earned his first Millikin save with a perfect ninth inning recording two strikeouts.  Millikin starter Ben Williamson threw four innings allowing three hits and no runs.
          MacMurray's Ryan Meddows threw eight innings allowing seven hits and two earned runs.
          Millikin is now 10-4 while MacMurray falls to 4-9.
          The Big Blue open up College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) play on March 28 when they host Illinois Wesleyan for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
