Big Blue Baseball Falls in Extra Innings

          The Millikin baseball team lost to Illinois Wesleyan 7-6 in 10 innings in a College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) match-up on April 19 at Sunnyside Park in Decatur, Illinois.
          Millikin scored two runs in the eighth inning on a two-run home run by Devin Crews to tie the game at 6-6, but the Titans scored the game winner in the top of the 10th inning.
          Crews was the hitting star for Millikin going 5-5 with three home runs.  Crews reached base in every at-bat collecting a hit-by-pitch in his second plate appearance.  Crews drove home four runs.  Crews tied the Millikin school record for hits in a game and tied the record for home runs in game.  Crews is now batting .377 with 10 home runs on the season.  He is one shy of the Millikin record for home runs in a season.
          Mason Bruce was 2-3 for Millikin with a home run. Anthony Bryan was 2-5 with an RBI.  Andrew Auton was 2-4.
          Millikin jumped out to an early 2-1 lead with a two-run first.  The Titans answered with three runs in the second inning on a bases clearing three-run double from Johnny Bosco.  Illinois Wesleyan was up 5-2 before Crews' second home run made a 5-3 after six. 
          Nick Figus had the run scoring single in the 10th to make it a 7-6 game.  Bosco led the Titans attack going 3-6.  Nick Brune was the winning pitcher in relief throwing the final two and two-thirds innings allowing two hits and no runs.
          Millikin out hit Illinois Wesleyan 16-12, but Big Blue pitchers had control problems issuing five hits, hitting one batter and throwing five wild pitches.
          Millikin is now 15-13, 5-9 while Illinois Wesleyan is 17-10, 8-6.
          The Big Blue will play Carroll University on April 21 and 22.  The games will be played at Wheaton College in Wheaton, Illinois.  The first game will be on Saturday at 7 p.m. followed by a doubleheader on Sunday at 1 p.m.
