Millikin Softball Splits with Carthage

The Millikin softball team split a conference doubleheader with Carthage College on April 21 at the Workman Family Softball Field in Decatur, Illinois.  The Lady Reds won game one 7-4 and Millikin bounced back to take game two 6-3.
Carthage jumped out a 5-0 lead in game one scoring four runs in the first and one run in the second.  Brooke Sefcik and Jennifer Michuda each had two run singles in the first inning.
Millikin battled back with two runs in the fifth and two in the sixth, but Carthage answered with two of its own in the sixth.
Taylor Jordan led the Millikin attack in game one going 2-4 with a double and a run scoring triple.  Devin Curry had the Big Blue's other RBI in the game.
It was Millikin's turn to jump out to the early lead in game two.  The Big Blue opened with four in the first and one in the second.  Millikin was limited to five hits in the game, but took advantage of three Lady Reds' errors.  Kalli Famer and Chelsea Eads had RBI for Millikin.  Curry tripled and Alyssa Voegele collected a double.  Jordan, Skielyr Trenkle and Cassidy Knoerzer each picked up a hit for the Big Blue.  Gracie Brookens was the winning pitcher throwing seven innings allowing seven hits and three earned runs.
Ellie Bernero led the Carthage attack in game two going 2-3 with a double and two RBI.
The game one loss broke Millikin's regular season winning streak at the Workman Family Softball Field that dated back to last season.  Millikin is now 23-1 at home in the regular season in the last two years.
Millikin is now 17-11, 4-6 while Carthage goes to 14-16, 4-4.
