Millikin Softball Drops Conference Twin Bill

The Millikin softball team lost a College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin doubleheader to Carroll University on April 22 at the Workman Family Softball Field.  Carroll won game one 1-0 and took the second game 3-2.
The first game was stellar pitching match-up of two former high school teammates at Munster, Indiana High School. Carroll sophomore Amanda Osterhus was the winner shutting out Millikin on just three hits with seven strikeouts over seven innings. Big Blue senior Cathy Lebryk pitched well allowing six hits and one unearned run while striking out two.
Carroll scored the game's only run in the second inning on one base hit and a costly Millikin throwing error.
Taylor Jordan had two of the Big Blue's three hits in game one.
The Pioneers won game two in walk off fashion on an RBI double from Veronica Rodriguez. Per CCIW rules Carroll was the home team in game two.
Trailing 2-1 after four, Millikin took a 2-1 lead in the fifth inning. Jordan drove home the Big Blue's first run and Brooke Heimerl stole home to put the Big Blue in front.
Carroll answered in the bottom of the fifth to tie the game at 2-2.
Millikin was again limited to three hits in the game.
Rachel Piontek was the winning pitcher for Carroll.
Carroll improves to 20-10, 8-2 while Millikin goes to 17-13, 4-8.
