Millikin Softball Sweeps Bluejays

         The Millikin softball team picked up an important College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) doubleheader sweep at Elmhurst College in Elmhurst, Illinois.
         In game one, Millikin snapped Elmhurst's eight game winning streak winning 9-2. Senior Alyssa Voegele led the offensive attack going 3-3 with a double, home run and two RBI.  Kalli Farmer was 3-4 with a double and an RBI.
Freshman Cassidy Knoenzer went 2-3 with an RBI.  Maddie Holland was 2-3.  Brooke Heimerl, Maggie Comerford and Chelsea Eads each drove home a run for the Big Blue.
         Senior Cathy Lebryk was the winning pitcher in game one throwing seven innings allowing seven hits and no earned runs.
         The Big Blue pounded out 16 hits in game two winning 9-6.  Voegele continued her hot hitting toing 3-3 with three RBI.  Eads was 2-4 with three RBI and Comerford was 2-4 with two RBI.  Taylor Jordan, Skielyr Trenkle, Farmer and Knoenzer each had two hits for Millikin.
         Gracie Brookens was the winning pitcher throwing six and two-thirds innings allowing nine hits and three earned runs.
         Alyssa Ressinger led Elmhurst in game two going 3-4 with two RBI.  Rebekah Ondracek went 2-3 with two RBI.
         Millikin improves to 19-13, 6-8 while Elmhurst goes to 14-18, 5-9.
         The victories allowed Millikin to move ahead of the Bluejays in the CCIW standings. Millikin faces a must win situation on Saturday, April 28 when they host North Park University at 1 p.m.  The Big Blue need two wins to keep hope alive for the fourth spot in the conference standings and a spot in the CCIW Tournament.
