Big Blue Baseball Splits at Wheaton

         The Millikin baseball team split a doubleheader at Wheaton College on April 25 in Wheaton, Illinois.
         In game one, Millikin opened the scoring in the fifth on back-to-back doubles from Julian Gutierrez and Gabe Soria. The Big Blue added two more runs in the sixth.  Jake Drada reached on a single and Anthony Bryan walked leading to a two-run double from Luke McConnellMason Bruce went 2-4 for the Big Blue.
         Derek Kortmeier was the winning pitcher improving to 3-0 on the year. Kortmeier pitched five and two-third innings allowing two hits and one earned run while striking out two.  Jared Buzan earned the save throwing the final three and a third shutout innings allowing only one hit with two strikeouts.
         Wheaton pitcher Sam Arnold was the story of game two pitching the Thunder to a 4-0 win.  Arnold threw a complete game shutout limiting Millikin to two hits with seven strikeouts for his first collegiate victory.
         Wheaton scored all four runs in the fifth inning.  Ben Brittain's two run single was the big blow in the inning.
         A double from Bryan and a single from Devin Crews were the only Big Blue hits in the game.
         Millikin is now 16-17, 6-13 while Wheaton goes to 14-18, 5-12.
         Millikin hosts Carthage College on Saturday, April 28 for a doubleheader at 1 p.m.
