Millikin Baseball Edged on Senior Day

         The Millikin baseball team lost to Carthage College 3-2 on Senior Day on April 29 at Sunnyside Park in Decatur, Illinois.
         Millikin opened the scoring in the first inning when senior Devin Crews led off with a walk and later scored on an RBI double from senior Jake Drada.
         Carthage answered with two runs in the second on a two-run single from Clayton Taylor.  The Red Men made it a 3-1 lead in the third on a home run from Myles Farley.
         The Big Blue cut the lead to 3-2 in the six on an RBI single from senior Julian Gutierrez.
         Crews, Drada and Gutierrez each had two hits in the game for Millikin.  Crews' two hits gave him 60 hits on the season setting a new Millikin record for hits in a season.
         Millikin starter Connor Gross pitched well despite taking the loss.  Gross threw all nine innings allowing three runs on eight hits while striking out 11.
         Prior to the game Millikin honored eight seniors playing in their final season. The group included Seth Coffey, Crews, Drada, Michael Guddendorf, Gutierrez, Luke McConnoll, Anthony Rendina and Hunter Wenstrom.
         Millikin has four games remaining on the schedule starting with a 5 p.m. home game against Augustana College on May 1.
         Carthage improves its second spot in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) standings going to 27-8, 14-5.  Millikin falls to 16-26, 6-16.
