The Millikin women's tennis team opened the 2018-19 Big Blue sports season hosting a three team round robin with Thomas More College and Illinois Institute of Technology.
In its first match of the day, Millikin lost to Thomas More 6-3.
Danielle Beard picked up two points for the Big Blue. Beard won at number three singles 6-1, 6-2 and teamed with
Madeline Delano to win 9-8 in doubles play. Millikin's
Morgan Bettner and freshman
Shelby Jones won at number one doubles 8-5.
Illinois Institute of Technology won the final match of the day against the Big Blue 8-1. Beard picked up Millikin's lone win in singles play winning 7-6 (7-4), 6-2.
Millikin will the Dorothy McClure Tennis Tournament on September 1. The tournament dates back to the early 1900's and is believed to be the oldest collegiate tennis tournament for women in the country.
