The 16th ranked Millikin women's volleyball team began the 2018 season in Tacoma, Washington, securing victories against Elizabethtown College and the University of Puget Sound.
The Big Blue won the first set 25-18 before dropping the second 21-25. They took down the Blue Jays in the last two sets, 25-22 and 25-19, for a 3-1 victory.
Rose Syversen led Millikin in assists with 32, and freshman Lauren Brummel led the Big Blue in kills with 18, followed by Marissa McElroy with 14. Syversen also added three service aces against Elizabethtown.
In their second match of the day, the Big Blue defeated the Loggers of the University of Puget Sound 3-1.
Syversen tallied 51 assists against the Loggers, while senior Emily Seegmiller led the team in kills with 22. Brummel added 13 and McElroy added 12. Millikin dropped the first set by a score of 26-28 before winning three straight, 25-20, 25-15, and 25-21.
They will be back in action in Tacoma on September 1, taking on Pacific Lutheran University and the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh.
