The Big Blue volleyball team completed their second day of competition in Bloomington, Illinois at the Holiday Inn Express Classic by splitting victories with two Texas teams. They began their day with a 3-1 win over Texas Lutheran University (15-25, 25-15, 25-22, 25-16).
Millikin's attack at the net was led by Marissa McElroy with 12 kills. The trio of Gabrielle Coulthard, Peyton Jackson, and Emily Seegmiller each tallied ten kills in the winning effort. Rose Syversen led the squad in assists with 41, and Alyssa Vignos chipped in 25 digs. In addition, freshman Maddie Sielski froze the Bulldogs four times for service aces.
In their second matchup of the day, the Big Blue was on the opposite end of a 3-1 margin (21-25, 25-14, 23-25, 17-25). They lined up across the net from Trinity University and fought hard, but the Tigers were too much.
The Big Blue were once again led by McElroy with 14 kills. Syversen tallied 29 more assists in the second matchup of the day, and Vignos added 23 digs. Kelsey McAtee served her way to three aces.
McElroy was named to the All-Tournament team.
With the split, Millikin finished the tournament with a 2-1 record, and their record improved to 8-7 overall. The Big Blue will continue their 2018 campaign with their first away CCIW matchup in Chicago at North Park University on Tuesday night.
