The Millikin University volleyball team secured a huge upset victory against twelfth ranked Hope College The Big Blue dominated in the first two sets before dropping the next two. They came all the way back, shifting the momentum in the loud Griswold Center for a five-set victory (25-21, 27-25, 20-25, 22-25, 15-13).
Peyton Jackson had a phenomenal game for Millikin, tallying 20 kills. Emily Seegmiller and Marissa McElroy were not far behind, with 14 and 13, respectively. Rose Syversen added 50 assists, and Kelsey McAtee dug up 16 balls and served for three aces. Alyssa Vignos added 13 digs.
Millikin improved to 9-8 on the season with the upset while Hope College fell to 11-3. The College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin showed their dominance in the Millikin Midseason Showcase with 18th ranked Illinois Wesleyan pulled an upset victory over Wittenberg, the third ranked squad in the nation.
The Big Blue will have two more chances for big wins in the second day of the tournament. They begin their Saturday at 10 a.m. against tenth ranked Thomas More before facing off against the 25th team in the nation, the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.
