The Big Blue women's volleyball team kicked off their second tournament of the 2018 season against Bethany Lutheran College. Millikin secured victory over the Vikings in three sets (25-13, 25-16, 25-21). As the Central/Grinnell Invitational was just a one-day tournament for Millikin, the Big Blue started their day in Iowa against the Vikings of Bethany Lutheran before taking on the Coe College Kohawks.
Junior setter Rose Syversen led the Big Blue in assists with 16, while freshman Lauren Brummel was Millikin's leader in kills with seven. She also added three blocks. Sophomore Alyssa Vignos contributed three service aces and 16 digs in the first match.
In game two, Millikin battled against Coe College, but they were ultimately taken in five sets after defeating the Kohawks in the first two (25-21, 25-18, 15-25, 23-25, 11-15).
Syversen once again led the Big Blue in assists with 38, and sophomore Gabrielle Coulthard was Millikin's kills leader with 14. Senior Emily Seegmiller chipped in 11, and Brummel added ten as well as six service aces. Vignos had 19 digs in the match.
Millikin's record improved to 3-3 after the split in Iowa heading into their first conference match up. The Big Blue will face CCIW foe, Augustana College, in their first home game of the season at the Griswold Center on Wednesday, September 12 at 7 P.M.
