Millikin Women’s Basketball Falls to Hot Shooting Bluejays

         The Millikin women's basketball team lost 92-85 to Elmhurst College on January 16 at the Griswold Center.
         The Bluejays had a stellar shooting night hitting on 60 percent from the field including going 11-15 (73.3 percent) from three-point range. Elmhurst shot 65 percent from the field in the first half and made 6-8 from beyond the arc to build a 46-37 lead at halftime. Elmhurst lead by as many as 15 points in the third quarter, before Millikin found its shooting touch and battled its way back into the game. Millikin's Aubrey Staton hit a three-pointer with 7:42 left in the game to make it 71-70 Elmhurst. Marissa Urso of the Bluejays answered with her own three-pointer to push the lead back to 74-70. The Big Blue stayed close and Briana Anthony's two free throws tied the game at 75-75 with 5:41 left in the game. Ten seconds later, Yanni Saddler would give Millikin a lead at 77-76. The Bluejays responded and built an 87-82 advantage with 1:42 remaining.  Another Staton three-pointer make it 87-85 with 1:23 left to play. Elmhurst made its shots and free throws down the stretch and held on for the win.
         Millikin shot 43 percent from the field and went 7-22 (32 percent) from three-point range. Elmhurst won the rebounding battle 34-30.
         Saddler led Millikin with 26 points followed by Staton with 24. Jordan Hildebrand had 14 points.
         Urso led Elmhurst with 28 points followed by Kellee Clay with 15. The Bluejays had six players score in double figures.
         Millikin is now 5-12, 1-7 while Elmhurst improves to 7-9, 4-4.
         Millikin will host Carthage College on January 19 at 2 p.m.
