Millikin Men’s Basketball Downs Carthage

         The Millikin men's basketball team won its second straight game defeating Carthage College 89-79 on January 20 at the Griswold Center in Decatur, Illinois.  The victory gives the Big Blue a rare season sweep against the Red Men.
         Millikin rallied from an early deficit and lead 50-41 at halftime.
Millikin kept its lead for the entire second half with the Red Men pulling to within to 55-53 midway through the half. A monster slam dunk by Millikin's Elijah Henry over Carthage's 6-10 Sean Johnson give the Big Blue a lift who pushed the advantage back out to eight points. Carthage made one final run in the final two minutes. Kienan Baltimore's layup with 1:54 left made it an 80-77 Millikin lead. The Big Blue closed the door on the Red Men when Zach Fisher made a fall away three-pointer as the shot clock was expiring to give Millikin an 83-77 advantage.
         Millikin shot 55 percent from the field including going 10-22 (45.5 percent) from three-point range. Carthage shot 51 percent from the field and went 7-17 from three-point range.  Millikin had an edge in the rebounding battle 31-29.
         Millikin had four players score in double figures led by Henry with 18 points and 13 rebounds. Zach Fisher had 17 points and six assists while Calvin Fisher had 17 points and four assists. DaVante Harrell added 16 points for the Big Blue.
         Sean Johnson scored 19 points to lead Carthage followed by Baltimore and Jordon Kedrowski each with 15 points.
         Millikin is now 10-7, 4-5 while Carthage falls to 7-11, 2-7.
         Millikin will host North Central College on January 23 at 7 p.m.
