Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Millikin Suffers Heartbreaking Overtime Loss

The Millikin men's basketball team suffered a heartbreaking 93-92 overtime loss to North Central College on January 23 at the Griswold Center.  The Big Blue fell victim to two last second shots by the Cardinals.
Millikin's Calvin Fisher hit two free throws with six second left in regulation to give the Big Blue an 82-79 lead. North Central's Aaron Jones banked home a three-pointer with one second left to send the game to overtime at 82-82.
Elijah Henry gave Millikin an 84-82 lead in the overtime before Jones hit another three-pointer to make it 85-84 Cardinals.  Millikin's Zach Fisher and North Central's Matt Cappelletti then traded baskets making it 87-86 North Central with three minutes left in overtime. Jordan Cunningham put Millikin up 88-87 and Henry pushed the Big Blue lead to 90-87 with a layup with 2:14 remaining. North Central's Mike Pollack hit a three-pointer to tie the game at 90-90 with 1:57 left in overtime. Millikin went up 92-90 with 1:33 to go on a layup from Cunningham.
For a moment it looked like a Cunningham, three-pointer would extend the Millikin lead to five with 5.8 second to go.  However, the officials ruled that Cunningham's shot came after the shot clock expired waiving off the basket and giving the Cardinals a final chance.  Pollack connected from the left wing as time expired to give the Cardinals the 93-92 win.
The game featured 17 lead changes and four ties. Millikin shot 56 percent from the field (34-61) and made 10-16 (62.5 percent) from three-point range. The Cardinals made 54 percent from the field (34-63) while connecting on 17-34 (50 percent) from three-point range.  Millikin won the rebounding battle 38-24.
Calvin Fisher led the Big Blue with a career high 32 points. He scored 13 of the Big Blue's first 18 points.  Calvin Fisher had six rebounds and two assists.
