Millikin Women Fall at Carthage

         The Millikin women's basketball team lost at Carthage College 68-63 on January 5 in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
         Millikin started the game strong jumping out to an 11-0 advantage. Freshman Aubrey Staton hit a three-pointer to get Millikin on the board and then Jordan Hildebrand scored six straight points. Staton closed out the run with a basket to put Millikin up by 11. Carthage battled back and trailed by two 17-15 at the end of the first quarter. Millikin lead 32-28 at the half. The Lady Reds outscored Millikin by seven in the third quarter and led 49-46 at the end of three. Carthage opened the fourth quarter with three straight three-pointers to open up a 12 point lead. The Big Blue battled back and pulled to within three late in the game, but could not overcome the deficit to pull out the win.
         Millikin shot 41 percent from the field, but went 3-18 (17 percent) from three-point range. Carthage shot 49 percent from the field and made 7-20 (35 percent) from three point range. Millikin won the rebounding battle 36-35.
         Hildebrand and Staton led the way for Millikin with each scoring 17 points and grabbing six rebounds. Briana Anthony added 14 points.
         Carthage got 14 points each from Madie Kaelber and Haley Ahr.
         Millikin is now 5-9, 1-4 while Carthage goes to 9-5, 3-2.
         Millikin travels to Wheaton College on January 9.
