Millikin Men Suffer Home Loss

         The Millikin men's basketball team dropped a College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) battle 68-62 to Wheaton College on January 9 at the Griswold Center in Decatur, Illinois.
         The game was tied at 20-20 with 9:18 when Wheaton's Ashton Francis took over hitting three straight three-point bombs to give the Thunder a 29-22 advantage with 7:45 remaining. Francis would score 27 of his game high 33 points helping Wheaton build a 42-33 advantage at halftime.
         The Big Blue did a much better job containing Francis in the second half holding him to just two made field goals. The Big Blue pulled to within four points at the 10-minute mark of the second half when Elijah Henry's basket made it 53-49 Wheaton. The Thunder would push the lead back out and a Francis three-pointer game gave Wheaton a 65-55 advantage with 2:49 remaining. The Big Blue would battle back. Two-point baskets by Calvin Fisher and Zach Fisher cut the lead to six. After a Thunder turnover, Calvin Fisher's three pointer made it a 65-62 game with 1:06 left to play. Millikin was forced to foul in the final seconds and Wheaton made 3-4 from the free throw line to secure the victory.
         Millikin shot 35 percent from the field and went 5-20 from three-point range. Wheaton shot 33 percent from the field, but made 11-30 from three-point range. Wheaton edged Millikin in the rebounding battle 43-42.
         Calvin Fisher and Zach Fisher each had 12 points for Millikin. Jordan Cunningham had a double double with 10 points and a game high 11 rebounds.
         Francis showed why is one of the best players in NCAA Division III scoring 33 points with 10 rebounds and two assists. Luke Anthony added 12 for Wheaton.
         Millikin is now 8-6, 2-4 while Wheaton improves to 11-4, 4-2.
         Millikin will host Illinois Wesleyan on Saturday at 4 p.m.
