DECATUR, Ill. - Millikin Women's Volleyball met Wheaton College tonight at the Griswold Center for their fourth CCIW matchup. Wheaton would squeeze out a win in the third set to force the match into a fourth, where the Big Blue would edge the Thunder to improve their conference record to 3-1 on the season.
The first set of the night saw Millikin take a quick 1-0 lead, beating Wheaton 25-15, the largest score differential of the night. The second set would see back and forth scoring the entire match, neither team being ahead by more than three for a majority of the match, forcing the match into extra points and seeing Millikin win 26-24. The next set saw both teams fighting back and forth for the entirety of the set, with Wheaton winning 25-23 and sending the match into a fourth set. The fourth set saw more of the same back and forth scoring, neither team being ahead by more than three. A four point scoring run by Millikin helped lead the charge to a 25-22 win to end the match with a 3-1 final score.
Marissa McElroy shined both on offense and defense, recording a match and season-high 17 kills, and a season-high six blocks. Freshman
Sarah Porter helped McElroy lock down the defense recording seven blocks of her own.
The Big Blue are on the road for their next match as they travel to Rock Island, Illinois on Friday, October 11 to face Augustana College at 7:00 PM.
