Big Blue Men’s Basketball Falls in Season Opener

         The Millikin men's basketball team lost its season opener to the University of Chicago 85-75 on November 10 at the Griswold Center in Decatur, Illinois.
         The Maroons led 31-26 at the half.  The Big Blue made several second half runs, but the Maroons seemed to answer every time Millikin got within two or three points.
         Chicago shot 53 percent (31-58) from the field and hit on 13-30 from three-point range (43 percent).  Millikin hit on 47 percent from the field (28-60) and went 5-21 from three-point range (24 percent).  Millikin won the rebounding battle 36-29.
         Millikin pulled to within two points at 67-65 with just under four minutes left on a turnaround jumper from freshman Cole Laurence.  Zach Munson answered with a three to push the advantage back to five and the Big Blue could not get any closer down the stretch.
         Sophomore Jake Hampton led Millikin with career high 23 points along with five rounds and four assists.  Junior transfer Troy Burrows had 16 points followed by Calvin Fisher with 14.  Fisher added seven rebounds and seven assists.
         Cole Schmitz scored 25 points to lead Chicago.  Dominic Laravie added 16.
