Millikin Outhits, Falls Short Against #9 Texas Lutheran

For the second day in a row, Millikin baseball outhit #9 Texas Lutheran, but the Big Blue fell 5-4 in the final game of the series against the Bulldogs on March 10.

The day began with the return of starting pitcher Adam Zuk, who hadn't pitched in a Big Blue uniform in over a season. Zuk dominated TLU hitters with four strikeouts in the nine batters that he faced in his three innings of work.

In the top of the fourth inning, the Big Blue jumped out to a 3-0 lead after senior Anthony Bryan led off the inning with a walk, Mason Bruce legged out a bunt for a hit, and freshman Frank Bryan sent a ball deep over the left field fence for a three-run home run.
Texas Lutheran used a two-run fifth inning and a three-run sixth inning to gain the lead that they wouldn't relinquish. The #9 team in the country used a two out rally in the fifth inning to chip away at the Big Blue lead and jumped ahead in the sixth after a walk and back to back RBI hits.

With the score sitting at 5-3 in the top of the ninth inning, pinch hitter Daniel Mendoza led off the inning with a single. He then advanced to third on an errant throw on a pickoff attempt. In the same at-bat, the wild pitch that walked Gabe Soria, also scored Mendoza from third. Representing the tying run, Soria was only able to advance as far as second though, as TLU was able to work out of the jam and earn the win.

Millikin was led in hitting by Frank Bryan, who was 2-4 on the day with the three RBI home run. Gabe Soria was 2-2 on the day with two walks.

The Big Blue are scheduled to play again on Tuesday, March 12 against #4 Trinity University in San Antonio. With the threat of inclement weather in the San Antonio area in the coming days, follow @BigBlueBaseball and @MUBigBlue on Twitter for any schedule updates.
