Millikin Softball Scores Two Wins

         The Millikin softball team scored a pair of victories at the Tucson Softball Invitational on March 11 in Tucson, Arizona. Millikin defeated the College of St. Scholastica 4-1 in game one and won the second game 5-4 over Case Western Reserve.
         In game one, Millikin trailed 1-0 when the Big Blue scored all four of its runs in the third inning. Millikin's Kailey Lyons, Bailey Gowin and Taylor Jordan all singled to load the bases. All three runs would score on a pickoff throw to third base. Later in the inning Kelsey Farmer drove home Kalli Farmer with a single.
         Jordan was 4-4 in the game with a stolen base. Gowin, Kelsey Farmer, and Lyons each had two hits. Maggie Comerford had a triple.
         Rachel Patting was the winning pitcher throwing seven innings allowing one earned run on three hits with eight strikeouts.
         Millikin jumped out to an early lead in game two with a four run fourth inning. Skielyr Trenkle had the big hit with a two-run double. Kelsey Farmer drove in a run with a ground out and Alyssa White had a run scoring single. After Case Western made it 4-3, Lyons homered for Millikin to make it a 5-3 lead.
         Aly Armstrong was the winning pitcher for the Big Blue with Patting picking up the save with three scoreless innings in relief.
         Case Western Reserve got a two-run homerun from Liv Thomas.
         Millikin is 4-2 and returns to action on Tuesday.
