Millikin Softball Winning Streak Extended to 13 Straight

         The 23rd ranked Millikin University softball team extended its winning streak to 13 straight games with a doubleheader sweep of Greenville University on March 21 in Greenville, Illinois. After posting back-to-back 9-3 wins over the Panthers, the Big Blue are now 14-2 on the season.
         The Big Blue scored four runs in the second inning of game one to take an early lead. After Greenville answered with two runs in the fourth, Millikin scored three in the fifth and added to more in the seventh to secure the victory.
         Millikin took advantage of two Greenville errors in the second inning and Bailey Gowin added a two-run single to make it a 4-0 game.  Kelsey Farmer had a two-run double and Cassidy Knoerzer added an RBI single in the Big Blue fifth inning. Alyssa White had an RBI single for the Big Blue in the seventh inning. White, Knoerzer, Kelsey Farmer and Kalli Farmer each had two hits for Millikin.
         Rachel Patting was the winning pitcher improving to 6-1 on the year.
Aly Armstrong picked up the save with three innings of relief.
         Greenville got a two-run homer from Kendall Farr in the fourth inning. Farr was 3-3 in the game.
         The Big Blue kept the offense going in game two scoring nine runs and pounding out 16 hits. Millikin used a seven run third inning to break open the game.
         Gowin continued her hot hitting in game two going 3-5 with a triple with two runs scored and two RBI. Maggie Comerford was 2-4 with a double and two RBI. White and Knoerzer each went 2-4 with a double and one run batted in. Kalli Farmer was 2-4 with a double and Kailey Lyons added two hits.
         Gracie Brookens was the winning pitcher throw six innings allowing three runs on eight hits.
         Deidra Holzhauser homered and drove in all three Greenville runs.
         Millikin will open up College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin play on March 30 with a doubleheader at Wheaton College. The Big Blue then play at North Park on March 31. Millikin returns home to face Augustana College on April 6 at 1 p.m.
