Millikin Softball Opens Season with Split

         The Millikin softball team opened its 2019 season by splitting a pair of games at the Tucson Softball Invitational on March 8 in Tucson, Arizona.
The Big Blue won its season opener 9-0 over Brevard College and then lost to Baldwin Wallace University 2-0.
         The Big Blue scored a single run in the first inning and then broke the game open with an eight run fourth inning.  Freshman Alexis Coleman had the RBI single in the first inning. Millikin's eight runs in the fourth were thanks in part to two Brevard errors. Bailey Gowin and Skielyr each had two run singles in the inning. Gowin had two hits in the game for the Big Blue.
         Gracie Brookens was the winning pitcher throwing four innings allowing one hit and no runs while striking out three.
         Millikin was held to just four hits by Baldwin Wallace left hander Abby Cosart. Kailey Lyons, Maggie Comerford, Trenkle and Kelsey Farmer each picked up a hit for the Big Blue.
         Baldwin Wallace scored single runs in each of the first two innings. Alexis Boledovic went 2-3 with an RBI for Baldwin Wallace.
         Millikin will be back in action on Saturday against Cornell College starting at 10 a.m. CT (9 a.m. MST).
