Millikin Baseball Drops Texas Shootout

Big Blue Baseball battled on Saturday afternoon against #9 Texas Lutheran, but dropped game two of the three game series, 14-7.

The Big Blue out hit the Bulldogs ten to eight, but four errors on the day for the Millikin defense proved costly, with Texas Lutheran capitalizing with two, five-run innings.

The Big Blue jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the first inning on a single by Brent Beals followed by a double by Luke Azzarelli. Millikin would have to battle from behind for the rest of the game after Texas Lutheran pulled ahead 5-1 in the bottom of the second. Gabe Soria added a two RBI single with nobody out in the top of the fourth inning to make the game 6-3, but Millikin stranded the bases loaded without scoring another run in the inning. Azzarelli added a three RBI triple in the top of the sixth inning, and a squeeze bunt by Anthony Bryan on the next play scored Millikin's seventh and final run of the game to make the score 9-7 in favor of Texas Lutheran, but a big bottom of the sixth for the Bulldogs put the game out of reach for Millikin.

Beals was 4-5 on the day with two runs scored. Azzarelli had four RBI's. Andrew Auton added two hits for Millikin, and Gabe Soria had two RBI.

The Big Blue are back in action again tomorrow against #9 Texas Lutheran and look to avoid the sweep with Adam Zuk on the mound. First pitch is scheduled for 1pm from TLU's Katt-Isbel Stadium. Follow @BigBlueBaseball and @MUBigBlue for updates on Millikin Athletics.
