Big Blue Softball Loses Battle with Titans

         The Millikin softball battled to the end with fourth ranked Illinois Wesleyan but fell short dropping a doubleheader to the Titans on April 10 at the Workman Family Softball Field in Decatur, Illinois.
         Pitching ruled the night with Illinois Wesleyan winning game one 2-0 in 10 innings and taking the nightcap 1-0.
         Game one featured the pitching of Millikin freshman Aly Armstrong and Illinois Wesleyan junior Ally Wiegand. Wiegand is a three-time winner of the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Pitcher of the Week award this season and a national Pitcher of the Week. Armstrong (5-1) threw all 10 innings for Millikin allowing eight hits and two runs while striking out 11. Armstrong kept the Titans off the board until the 10th inning. Wiegand (10-2) picked up the victory throwing nine shutout innings holding the Big Blue to seven hits while striking out 10. Brea Walker picked up the save for the Titans pitching a perfect bottom of the 10th inning.
         Shelby Falk had a two-run single to give the Titans the victory.
         Taylor Jordan went 3-4 for Millikin with Alyssa White picking up two hits.
         Game two saw Walker return to the circle for the Titans against junior Rachel Patting for Millikin. Walker picked up the victory throwing seven shutout innings allowing just three hits while striking out five.
Patting limited Illinois Wesleyan to four hits with two strikeouts. Pitching six shutout innings before surrendering the game winner with two outs in the bottom of the seventh.
         Brittany Murphy doubled home the lone Titan run.
         Millikin is now 18-8, 4-6 while Illinois Wesleyan improves to 19-4, 6-0.
