Baseball Drops Series to Red Men

The Millikin baseball team dropped the deciding game three of the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin series against Carthage College, 7-6 on April 7.

Millikin jumped out early on Carthage starter Jacob Delabio on a two-run homerun by Jon Walters, who was 2-4 on the day. A seven run second inning for Carthage was all that was needed to stay ahead of the Big Blue for the rest of the game. In that inning, Carthage scored the seven runs on six hits. Vince Schwartz led the attack on the day for Carthage, going 3-4 with an RBI.

The Big Blue battled with a two-out rally in the top of the fourth inning, scoring four runs on three hits, but Carthage was able to limit the damage and keep the game at 7-6 the rest of the way, working out of a jam in the top of the ninth inning with Millikin threatening with the bases loaded and two outs.

Millikin falls to 10-11 and 5-4 in conference play, while Carthage improves to 12-10 and 4-5 in conference action. The Big Blue return to action on Wednesday, April 10 at home against North Central with a 6 p.m. first pitch scheduled.
