Millikin Knocks Off Augustana in CCIW Tournament

         The Millikin baseball team posted two wins in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Tournament in action on May 9 at Lee Pfund Stadium in Carol Stream, Illinois.
         After opening the day with a 10-3 win over North Park, the third seeded Big Blue knocked off the second seed Augustana College 14-1 in seven innings. The win advances Millikin to Friday's winners bracket final against the one seed North Central College in Naperville at 1 p.m. The Cardinals defeated Illinois Wesleyan 14-6. Today's win over North Park was the first CCIW Tournament win for Millikin since 1990 and the victory over Augustana marks the first time in school history the Big Blue have won two tournament games.
         Millikin had 19 hits and 14 runs in the win over the Augustana. The Big Blue scored five runs in the first, three in the fourth, three in the fifth, one in the sixth and two in the seventh.
         Andrew Auton had a bases clearing three run double to spark the Millikin scoring in the first. Auton had two hits in the game. Anthony Bryan had three hits including a triple scoring three times and driving home one.
Brent Beals and Gabe Soria each collected three hits. Jon Walters, Kyle Kane and Merrick Eddington each had two hits and two RBI for Millikin. Walters homered in the Millikin seventh inning.
         Connor Gross was the winning pitcher throwing six innings allowing four hits and one run while striking out three. Michael Staszcuk pitched a perfect botton of the seventh.
         Ryan Kairis had two hits for Augustana.
         In the win over North Park, Millikin was led by Jake Stanton with three hits including a double and two-run home run. Walters went 3-4 with a double. Kane had two hits including a double and Mason Bruce had two hits with a triple.
         Adam Zuk was the winning pitcher throwing six and two-thirds innings allowing three runs on seven hits with five strikeouts.
         Jared Cantu led North Park with two hits and an RBI.
         Millikin is now 23-18 on the season.
