Big Blue Tennis Second at Dorothy McClure Tournament

         The Millikin women's tennis team went 1-1 to on the day to finish second in the 2019 Dorothy McClure Tennis Tournament held at the Fairview Tennis Center in Decatur, Illinois on August 31.  The event is believed to me the oldest collegiate tennis tournament for women dating back to 1917.  McClure was a physical education professor at Millikin.
         Millikin opened the day with a 7-2 win over Cornell College.  The Big Blue won five of six singles matches and two of three doubles matches.
Millikin singles winner were Morgan Bettner (6-1, 6-3), Shelby Jones (6-3, 6-0), Danielle Beard (6-0, 6-0), Katie Cooper (6-0, 6-0) and Amber Rezinas (7-5, 10-7).
         Beard and Cooper and Bettner and Alena Hinch teamed to pick up doubles wins.
         Greenville University defeated the University of Dubuque 9-0 in the other opening round match.
         The Panthers defeated Millikin 5-4 in the Championship match. Big Blue freshman Brianna Barconni (6-4, 6-3), Beard (5-7, 6-3, 10-7) and Cooper (6-4, 6-3) won singles matches.  Bettner and Hinch picked up Millikin's other point with an 8-2 in doubles.
         Cornell defeated Dubuque 9-0 to finish in third.
