#16 North Central Edges Millikin Men’s Basketball

The Millikin men's basketball team upset bid against #16 North Central came up short with a 76-66 loss to the Cardinals on January 15 at the Griswold Center in Decatur, Illinois.

Millikin shot 53 percent from the field in the first half including going 6-12 from three-point range to build up a 38-34 advantage at halftime.  The Cardinals opened the second half with a 12-0 run and lead 46-38 with 15:37 remaining.  The Big Blue stayed close over the next few minutes thanks to three three-point baskets from sophomore Jake Hampton.  A three-pointer from Big Blue senior Zach Fisher tied the game at 60-60 with 7:12 left in the game.  Millikin then pushed the lead out to four points before North Central battled back and tied the game at 64-64 on a basket by Matt Helwig with 4:16 to play.  North Central would close out the game on a 12-2 run to seal the victory.
Millikin shot 46.6 percent (27-58) from the field for the game including going 11-28 (39 percent) from beyond the arc.  The Cardinals made 49 percent (25-51) from the field and went 8-27 (30 percent) from three-point range.  Millikin won the rebounding battle 33-29.
Hampton led Millikin with 15 points and five assists.  Zach Fisher had 12 points followed by Calvin Fisher and Korbin Farmer each with nine points.  Calvin Fisher had a team high eight rebounds.
