MIDWAY, Ky. - Millikin Men's Volleyball closed out their opening weekend on the road in Midway, Kentucky after starting their morning in Cincinnati, Ohio. The Big Blue faced Mount St. Joseph in Cincinnati at 10:00 AM Saturday, followed by an evening match in Midway against Midway University. Millikin would drop both matches 3-0, starting their first season 0-3.
In the first match of the day, Millikin would face the Mount St. Joseph Lions and would fall 25-21, 25-19, 25-14. Despite the final scores, Millikin showed an impressive amount of talent for a first year program largely made of freshmen. Colby Cambell, a freshman from Brookfield, Illinois, was a defensive presence at the net for the Big Blue. Campbell also led Millikin on offense recording six kills, followed by Guam native
Shayden Attao, who had five kills in the match.
In the afternoon, Millikin would hit the road to Midway, Kentucky to face Midway University, who competes at the NAIA level. The Eagles from Midway had an impressive outing with two prevalent offensive weapons in Victor Bazzo and Adrian Constant. Bazzo recorded 15 kills for Midway while Constant had 14 of his own, accounting for 29 of the 53 points Midway scored in the match. The Eagles would win the match with a 3-0 final score.
While Midway was impressive in the match, the Big Blue showed more promise within its freshmen squad.
Peter Sailsman, a freshman from Scotch Plains, New Jersey, lead Millikin with seven kills, while
Shayden Attao continued his impressive weekend with six kills. Attao had a team-best .250 attacking percentage, while Sailsman hit .143%.
Millikin is back on the road on January 31 - February 1 as they compete in the Concordia Invite hosted by Concordia University in Wisconsin. Millikin will face Concordia University in Wisconsin on Friday at 7:00 PM and again on February 1 at 10:00 AM. The Big Blue will finish their weekend facing Maranatha Baptist University on February 1 at 2:00 PM.
