Millikin Women’s Basketball Edges Cardinals

        The Millikin women's basketball team picked up a key College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin road victory winning a thriller 74-73 at North Central College in Naperville, Illinois on January 25.
        North Central started off the game strong and held a 21-18 advantage at the end of the first quarter.  The Cardinals led 44-40 at halftime and pushed its lead out to 10 points with 7:26 left to play in the third quarter.  Millikin then began to battle back going on a 12-2 run and tying the game at 52-52 on a layup by Aubrey StatonNatalie Snyder's three pointer put Millikin up 55-52 before Haydn Braun's hit a three to tie the game at 55-55 with 31 seconds left in the third quarter.  Jordan Hildebrand would hit a free throw to make it 56-55 at the end of three quarters.
        Each team would score 18 points in the fourth quarter.  Braun would hit a basket early in the fourth quarter to put the Cardinals back on top by one. North Central would lead for the seven plus minutes pushing the lead out to as many as four points.  The Big Blue regained the lead with 1:56 left to play on a three pointer by Miranda Fox to make it 70-69.  Braun would make it 71-70 North Central with 1:40 to play.  Millikin's Abby Ratsch answered with a layup to make it 72-71 Big Blue with 1:07 remaining.  The Cardinals would go up 73-72 with 22 seconds to play on a layup from Allison Pearson.  Ratsch would score the game winning basket with seven seconds left to play.  The Cardinals missed their attempt with one second to play and Snyder pulled down the rebound to secure the Millikin win.
        Hildebrand led Millikin with 26 points and six rebounds.  Ratsch finished with 12 points and seven rebounds.  Staton and Briana Anthony each had nine for Millikin.
        Pearson had 21 points to lead the Cardinal with Braun finishing with 19 points all coming in the second half.  Braun single handedly kept North Central in the game going 8-8 from the field including making three of three from three-point range.
        Millikin shot 45 percent (24-53) from the field including going 7-10 in the fourth quarter.  The Big Blue made only 4-14 from the three-point range, but hit 2-4 in the fourth quarter.  Millikin left points at the free throw line making 22-35.  North Central was 26-55 (47 percent) from the field including going 8-20.  The Cardinals were 13-22 from the free throw line.
        Millikin and North Central entered the game tied for third in the CCIW at 4-4.  The win improves Millikin to 12-6 overall and 5-4 in the CCIW.  North Central is now 8-10, 4-5.
