ELSAH, Ill. - Millikin Men's Tennis was on the road in Elsah, Illinois on Saturday, February 15 as they took on the St. Louis College of Pharmacy Eutectics and the Principia College Panthers. The Big Blue would split matches, defeating St. Louis College of Pharmacy 9-0, but would fall to Principia 6-3, bringing their record to 1-3 on the season.
In the first match of the night, Millikin would sweep St. Louis College of Pharmacy 9-0 for their first win of the season. In doubles play,
Jacob Palley and
Logan Bennett would defeat Rahul Jilakara and Anirudh Kalathil 8-3, while
Holden Owens and
Clayton Maack would beat Alec Johnson and James Bamberger 8-0. James Broad and
Cory Erickson would also post an 8-0 victory over Clark Berry and Zuan Le.
Singles matches would see Millikin continue the momentum, holding the Eutectics to two points or less in every single set.
Jacob Palley would take on Rahul Jilakara in the #1 singles match and would win 6-2, 6-1. In the #2 singles match, Clayon Maack defeated Alec Johnson 6-0, 6-1.
Holden Owens saw himself in the #3 singles match against James Bamberger and would win both sets 6-1, 6-0.
Adrian Sanchez-Rodriguez took on Clark Berry and would win 6-2 in both sets of the #4 singles matchup.
Cory Erickson faced Anirudh Kalathil in the #5 singles spot and would sweep both sets 6-0. Like Erickson,
Justin Caldwell would sweep both sets 6-0 against Mensur Koso.
The second match of the day would see Millikin win one doubles matchup against Principia and would fall in four of the six singles matches.
Jacob Palley and
Logan Bennett would go into a tiebreaker with Wyatt Dale and Greg Sovie but would fall 8-7.
Holden Owens and
Clayton Maack would also go into a tiebreaker with Daniel Gomez and Juan Segovia but would also fall 8-7.
James Broach and
Cory Erickson would record Millikin's only doubles win against William Johnson and Elliott Matthiesen winning 8-5.
Jacob Palley would see himself in the #1 singles spot again taking on Daniel Gomez, but would fall 6-4, 6-0.
Clayton Maack would force his singles match against Wyatt Dale into three sets, winning the first set 6-4 but would drop the second 7-5 and the third 6-2.
Holden Owens took on Greg Sovie in the #3 singles match where Sovie would win 6-3, 6-1.
Logan Bennett faced Juan Segovia in singles, forcing the first set into a tiebreaker where he would fall 7-6 but would come back to win the second set 6-4. and fall 6-2 in the third set.
Adrian Sanchez-Rodriguez and
Cory Erickson would both record wins in singles play for Millikin, with Sanchez-Rodriguez taking down William Johnson 6-3, 6-1 and Erickson defeating Elliott Matthiesen 6-1, 6-4.
The Big Blue are back in action on February 23 as they take on Prairie State College and Hanover College in Chicago, Illinois.
