Men's Tennis Falls to Prairie State and Hanover in Road Tri Match

HOMEWOOD, Ill. - Millikin Men's Tennis were on the road in Homewood, Illinois on Sunday, February 23 as they took on Prairie State College and Hanover College in a triangle match hosted at HF Racquet and Fitness Club. The Big Blue would lose both matches 5-4 to bring their record to 1-5 on the season. 

Millikin would face Prairie State College in the first match of the day and would win two of the three doubles matches. Holden Owens and Clayton Maack would defeat Richard Ngwarwi and Jedrzej Brodzki 8-6 in the #2 doubles match and James Broach and Cory Erickson would beat Miguel Ferreira and Jibril Dean in the #3 doubles match 8-4. In the #1 doubles matchup, Jacob Palley and Logan Bennett would fall 8-6 to Renan Kormann and Nehmia Zewdu Molla. 

The Big Blue would go into singles play with a 2-1 lead, but Prairie State would take four of the six singles matches to come back to win 5-4. Jacob Palley would defeat Renan Kormann in three sets losing the first set 6-4 before coming back to win the next two 6-2, 10-8. In the #2 singles match, Holden Owens would lose to Nehmia Zewdu Molla 6-3, 6-2. Logan Bennett would also be beaten 6-3, 6-2 to Richard Ngwarwi in the #3 singles match. Nick Laramee would take on Jedrzej Brodzki in the #4 singles match and would fall in three sets, winning the first 6-2 and losing 6-2, 10-3 in the second and third sets. Cory Erickson would also be defeated in three sets by Miguel Ferreira, losing the first set 7-5, winning the second 6-3 and falling 10-4 in the third. In the #6 spot, James Broach would take down Jibril Dean in two sets, winning 6-2, 6-0. 

Prairie State College Box Score

In the second match of the day, the Big Blue would take on Hanover College and would again fall 5-4. Millikin would sweep doubles play 3-0, with Jacob Palley and Logan Bennett defeating Connor Garrison and Roger Trombley 6-1 in the #1 doubles matchup. Holden Owens and Clayton Maack would take down Landon Carrico and Jonathan Helmers 6-4 and James Broach and Cory Erickson would beat Keith Asplund and Pablo Gallart 6-4 to go into singles play with a 3-0 lead. 

Hanover College would rally in the singles matches, winning five of the six matches. Jacob Palley would play in the #1 singles match against Pablo Gallart and win 6-3, 6-1. Landon Carrico would defeat Clayton Maack in two sets 6-0, 6-2. Holden Owens would face Keith Asplund in the #3 singles match and would lose 6-4, 7-6. Logan Bennett and Jonathan Helmers would face each other in the #4 match where Helmers would win in two sets 7-5, 6-4. Nick Laramee would also be beaten in two sets by Roger Trombley 6-2, 7-5. In the #6 singles match, Cory Erickson would take on Jed Fajt and lose the first set 7-6, coming back to win the second set 6-4, falling in the third set 10-6. 

Hanover College Box Score

The Big Blue will be on the road from March 7-13 as they compete in the Spring Tennis Fest in Hilton Head, South Carolina.
