Men's Volleyball Hosts Triangular at the Griswold Center

DECATUR, Ill. - Millikin Men's Volleyball hosted CCIW conference foe North Central College and St. Norbert College at the Griswold Center on Saturday, Feburary 15. The Big Blue would be defeated in both matches of the day, seeing their record move to 1-10 on the season. 

In the first match of the day, North Central College would beat Millikin in three sets, holding the Big Blue to a .079 hitting percentage while they hit a solid .456 percent. North Central would show their experience as a team holding Millikin to scores under 19 in all three sets and held the lead in all three sets of the match. 

Guam native Shayden Attao led Millikin on offense with six kills while Jose Gallardo had five and Colby Cambell had four. On defense, setter Robbie Maida posted five digs and had 22 assists. 

The second match of the day saw the Big Blue take on the Green Knights from St. Norbert College. The match would go four sets, but Millikin would be unable to pull out the result, falling 3-1. 

The first set of the match would be forced into extra points as the Big Blue would make a late game push to tie the score at 24-24 on a multi-point scoring run led by Kyle Clendenen. Millikin would go on eight multi-point scoring runs in the set but would fall 26-24. 

Millikin would take the second set after the game went back and forth late in the set. In the middle of the set, the Big Blue would find themselves trailing 17-13, but three mutli-point scoring runs would put Millikin ahead to win 25-22. Terezz Lee helped spark the offense for Millikin, recording an ace that led to Millikin scoring five points a play later. 

The third set would be tied 16 total times before St. Norbert would pull away to take a 23-20 lead on Millikin. Colby Campbell brought the game back to a tie at 23-23, single handedly bringing the score to a tie with three straight kills. The Green Knights would go on to win 25-23 to go ahead 2-1 going into the fourth set. 

St. Norbert controlled the fourth set, keeping a lead for the entire game. Millikin would score two or more points in a row only twice in the set and would fall 25-15 to drop the match 3-1. 

Colby Cambpell led Millikin at the net on defense against St. Norbert, posting a season-high five blocks, while Peter Sailsman recorded three and Kyle Clenden had two of his own. Shayden Attao and Jose Gallardo posted season-highs in digs, with Attao putting up 12 and Gallardo with 11. Gallardo also led Millikin on offense with 11 kills and one service ace, while Peter Sailsman had nine kills in the match and Colby Campbell had seven. Robbie Maida led the match in assists, posting 39 against St. Norbert. 

Millikin is on the road for their next contest as they travel to Chicago, Illinois for a CCIW conference matchup against North Park University at 7:00 PM on February 18.
