Game Recap: Men's Volleyball | | Nathan Cameron

Men's Volleyball Defeated by North Park University

CHICAGO, Ill. - Millikin Men's Volleyball was in Chicago, Illinois on Tuesday night as they squared off against North Park University in a CCIW conference matchup. The Big Blue would win the first set of the match but would be unable to pull off the result as North Park would take the next three to win the match 3-1.

The entire match was neck and neck, with Millikin taking the first set with a 25-22 final score. North Park would score the first point of the set but that would be the only time in the set that the Big Blue would trail, leading the remainder of the game, going on two multi-point scoring runs to help solidify the set win.

The second set of the match was much like the first, with neither team leading by more than two until North Park took a 19-16 lead late in the set. The Big Blue would tie it back up at 19-19 after going on a three point scoring run but the Vikings would answer scoring three of their own two plays later to take a 24-21 lead. A kill from Frank Mauigoa would end the set 25-23.

North Park would win the fourth set by the largest point differential of the night, beating Millikin 25-17. North Park would hold a lead in the entirety of the set, scoring three or more points in a row on four different occasions in the game.

The fourth set of the match saw four lead changes early in the set, with the score tying a total of 12 times before North Park would go on a four point scoring run to end the set 25-21, ending the match with a 3-1 final score in favor of the Vikings.

Despite recording 52 kills on the night, two more than North Park, attacking errors and getting beaten at the net defensively would give North Park the advantage to take down the Big Blue. Freshman setter Robbie Maida led the match in assists, posting 43 on the night. Colby Campbell recorded a season-high six blocks and nine kills, tying North Park's Johnny Euler for most blocks in the match. Willie Valentine would have 16 digs in the match, tying Frank Mauigoa for most digs in the match and Arturo Sanchez had a season-high two services aces. Jose Gallardo led the Big Blue in kills on the night with a season-high 13 kills, while Shayden Attao had 11 and Kyle Clendenen had 10.

The Big Blue are on the road again on Saturday, February 22 as they face Augustana College at 1:00 PM in Rock Island, Illinois for another CCIW conference tilt.
