CONWAY, Ark. - Millikin Baseball closed out their opening weekend on Sunday, February 16 in Conway, Arkansas, recording their first win of the 2020 season defeating Hendrix College 4-0.
The Big Blue got on the board early in the game on a single to left center field by
Frank Bryan that would score
Gabe Soria from second to give Millikin a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Soria would score again for Millikin in the top of the third on a
Kyle Kane triple to right field bringing the score to 2-0. An inning later in the top of the fourth, Maryville University transfer
Mason McGahey would hit a lead off home run to give the Big Blue a 3-0 lead. The game would remain 3-0 until the eighth inning when
Andrew Auton would strike out, reaching first on a passed ball, scoring
Frank Bryan from third, adding another run for Millikin, bringing the score to the final score of 4-0.
Mason McGahey led the Big Blue on offense, going 2-4 on the day, recording a double and a home run.
Gabe Soria would score two of the four runs scored by Millikin in the game and
Kyle Kane scored one.
Ben Williamson would record his first win of the season on the mound, throwing 5.0 innings, allowing four hits and no runs, striking out one.
Evan Lawrence would come in as relief in the sixth inning, closing out the game throwing 4.0 innings, allowing two hits and no runs, striking out two.
The Big Blue are on the road for their next contest as they face Southwestern University in Jackson, Mississippi on February 28 at 2:00 PM.
