Big Blue Men’s Basketball Edged by Carthage

         The Millikin men's basketball team lost to Carthage College 68-63 on February 8 at the Griswold Center in Decatur, Illinois.
         The game was a physical hard fought College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) battle.  Millikin jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead, but Carthage battled back and took the lead 13-11 with 12:04 left in the first half.  The Red Men would lead the rest of the half and go into the locker room up 31-22. 
         In the second half, Carthage would push its lead out to as many as 11 before the Big Blue battled back.  Millikin pulled to within one at 54-53 on a Zach Fisher basket with four minutes left to play.  Filip Bulatovic pushed the Carthage lead back to four at 57-53 before Millikin again pulled to within one on a basketball and one free throw from Cole Laurence with 2:26 left to make it 57-56.  Kienan Baltimore answered for the Red Men and the Big Blue could never get closer than three points down the stretch.
         Fisher scored 30 points for the Big Blue on Senior Night to go over 1,000 points in his Big Blue career.  Fisher stands at 1,015 with three games remaining.  Cole Laurence had a double double for the Big Blue with 13 points and 11 rebounds. 
         In addition to Fisher, Millikin honored seniors David Biggs Jordan Cunningham, Korbin Farmer and Kevin Miller.
         Jordan Kedrowski led Carthage with 23 points followed by Sean Johnson with 17 points and nine rebounds.
          Millikin shot 37 percent (24-65) from the field and made only 6-26 from three-point range.  Carthage shot 38 percent (23-61) from the field and made 6-23 from three-point range.  Millikin won the rebounding battle 42-40.
         Millikin is now 4-18, 1-12 while Carthage improves to 14-7, 6-6.
