DECATUR, Ill. - Millikin Men's Volleyball played host to the North Park University Vikings at the Griswold Center on Thursday, March 5. The Big Blue would fall in straight sets to bring their record to 3-14 on the season, going 1-5 in CCIW conference play.
North Park would score the first point in the match in the first set on an attacking error by
Colby Campbell. The Big Blue would take the lead two plays later going up 2-1, but that would be the last Millikin would have a lead in the set. The Vikings would end up winning the first set 25-19.
The second set would start with North Park scoring first on another attacking error by
Colby Campbell but would go on a four point scoring run to go ahead 4-3. Millikin would hold the lead until the game would tie at 10-10. In total, the set would tie nine times, but North Park would pall ahead and win 25-21.
Set three saw the Big Blue fall by their largest score differential of the night, losing 25-15. Service errors plagued both teams in match, with Millikin committing 19, while North Park had 12.
Millikin would outscore North Park 39-36, recording 30 kills while the Vikings had 27. Both sides recorded two aces and seven blocks on the night.
Jose Gallardo led the match with 11 kills on the night, while
Peter Sailsman had six and
Colby Campbell had five. Campbell would also post one service ace.
Defensively,
Colby Campbell,
Jose Gallardo and
Peter Sailsman had strong showings, each recording three blocks a piece. Freshman Libero
Willie Valentine led Millikin in digs with 10.
The Big Blue are back in action at the Griswold Center on Saturday, March 7 as they host #11 Carthage College at 1:00 PM.
