Swimming Opens Season at IWU Halloween Invite

The Big Blue men's and women's swim teams opened their 2021-22 season at the Illinois Wesleyan Halloween Invite on Saturday, October 30. Millikin faced the host Titans, North Central, and Rose-Hulman and placed second on both the men's and women's side.

Illinois Wesleyan took first place on the men's side with an overall score of 148. Millikin scored 62 to take second. The host Titans were also the top squad on the women's side with 129 points. Millikin took the second slot with 92 points.

The Big Blue posted the top time in three races. Millikin's women's relay team of Brigid Duesterhaus, Grace Meacham, Hope Roderick, and Aly Barnes took first place in the 500 yard freestyle relay with a time of 5:03. 86. Roderick posted the top time in the 200 yard butterfly with her time of 2:28.81. Jaden Lockard placed third in the race in a time of 2:40.28 to take third. The team of Duesterhaus, Barnes and Liv Marquardt notched a Millikin win in the 300 yard medley relay with a time of 3:15.25.

The team of Marquardt, Kaitlyn Mayer, and Meacham placed second in the 300 yard butterfly relay in a time of 3:14.68. In the 300 backstroke relay, Millikin placed second with a time of 3:21.81 from the team of Duesterhaus, Emma Cox, and Barnes. The Big Blue's Atkinson, Kendall Rossignol, and Meacham took second in the 300 yard breaststroke relay with their time of 3:52.90. Cox, Atkinson, Mayer, and Sarahi Villafana accomplished a second place finish in the 200 yard medley relay with a time of 2:03.56 in the finals.

Marquardt and Mayer each tallied points in the 100 yard freestyle, with Marquardt placing third (59.15) and Mayer taking fifth (1:00.54). Duesterhaus placed fourth in the 200 yard freestyle in a time of 2:07.28. Cox's fourth place finish in the 200 backstroke added more points to Millikin's total. Roderick and Barnes each tallied scoring performances in the 500 yard freestyle, with Roderick in fourth (5:49.27) and Barnes in fifth (5:54.48).

In the 200 yard freestyle relay, Marquardt, Mayer, Meacham, and Atkinson's team took second place with their time of 1:48.11. Rossignol placed second in the 200 yard breaststroke with her time of 2:47.62.

For the men's team, Kenneth Hamlin, Diogomaye Bamba, Dawsen Loafman, and Justin Maniago teamed up for second place in the 500 yard freestyle, posting a time of 4:29.61. Millikin notched second place on the men's side in the 300 yard backstroke relay with Hamlin, Bamba, and Mark Miller posting a time of 3:16.98. The team of Loafman, Carter Noyes, and Omar Ayad took second in the 300 yard breaststroke with a final time of 3:43.47. The relay team of Hamlin, Loafman, Maniago, and Bamba tallied their second 2nd place relay finish of the day in the 200 yard medley with a time of 1:52.94.

Millikin's Loafman, Hamlin, and Noyes teamed up to take second in the 300 yard medley relay with a time of 3:14.76. Newcomer Kade Zanger placed third in the 200 yard freestyle in a time of 1:55.49.

Bamba took fifth in the men's 100 yard freestyle with his time of 57.95 to tally another point for Millikin. Ayad took third place in the 200 yard breaststroke with a time of 2:42.86. Maniago and Miller each posted scoring performances in the 500 yard freestyle, with Maniago in third (5:37.11) and Miller in fourth (5:55.88).

In the final men's race, the Big Blue team of Bamba, Hamlin, Ayad, and Loafman placed second with a time of 1:38.07 in the 200 yard freestyle relay.
