Women's Swimming Morgan Vogels

Swimming Defeats Illinois College, Knox College at Illinois College Winter Invite

The Millikin men's and women's swim teams traveled to Jacksonville, Ill. on Friday, December 10 for the Illinois College Winter Invite. The Big Blue competed against Illinois College and Knox College in the meet. 

On the women's side, Millikin defeated Illinois College by a score of 496-114 and Knox College by a score of 554-42. The men defeated Illinois College 303-237, and Knox College 423-44. 

Millikin was responsible for the top time in all of the women's events and four of the seven men's events. 

In the first event of the day, the relay team of Liv Marquardt, Laura Atkinson, Brigid Duesterhaus, and Aly Barnes won the 200 yard medley relay in a time of 1:56.30. The team of Emma Cox, Kendall Rossignol, Kaitlyn Mayer, and Hope Roderick finished second. On the men's side, Jason Burrow, Omar Ayad, Carter Noyes, and Mark Miller teamed up for a second place finish in the 200 yard medley. 

In the women's 100 yard IM, the Big Blue posted the top seven times with Barnes, Marquardt, and Katie Yelaska taking the top three slots. In the men's race, Justin Maniago placed second. A similar storyline followed in the 50 yard breaststroke race for the women with the top seven times secured by Big Blue swimmers. Atkinson, Duesterhaus, and Rossignol notched the top three times. For the men, Dawsen Loafman was first in the 50 yard breaststroke, and Diogomaye Bamba finished third. 

The women continued their dominance in the 50 yard backstroke with the top five times. Duesterhaus claimed the top slot in a time of 28.66 followed by Marquardt and Yelaska in second and third. Loafman picked up his second individual win of the day in the 50 yard backstroke with a time of 27.62. KJ Hamlin took second and Maniago finished fourth. 

Duesterhaus's second individual win of the day came in the 50 yard freestyle with her time of 25.74. Marquardt finished second in a close finish, and the Big Blue claimed 10 of the top 11 times. Loafman was second on the men's side, and Bamba finished third. 

In the women's 50 yard butterfly, Marquardt placed first, followed by the next 11 spots taken by Big Blue swimmers. Barnes posted a second place finish, and Duesterhaus took third. Loafman's third individual victory of the day came in the 50 yard butterfly with his time of 26.43.

The women's team picked up another individual victory, the second of the day for Barnes in the 100 yard freestyle with her time of 57.73. Duesterhaus claimed the second place slot. Loafman continued his success in the 100 yard freestyle, taking first for a fourth time on the day in a time of 52.30 with Maniago taking second. 

The Big Blue team of Grace Meacham, Amanda Fathman, Sarahi Villafana, and Yelaska placed first in the 200 yard freestyle relay in their time of 1:52.42, and the men's team of Bamba, Maniago, Hamlin, and Loafman placed first in the 200 yard freestyle in a time of 1:37.91. The team of Burrow, Kade Zanger, Miller, and Noyes notched a third place finish. 

Millikin swimming will be back in action in a scrimmage against The College of Wooster in St. Petersburg, Fla. on Saturday, January 8 before returning to Illinois for a conference matchup with the Wheaton Thunder on Friday, January 14.
