Big Blue Baseball Opens Season with Victory

          The Millikin baseball team opened its 2021 season with a 3-0 over Marian University at the Workman Family Baseball Field in Decatur, Illinois on February 27.
          The Big Blue used the shutout pitching of senior Adam Zuk and junior Caleb Buehrle and some timely hitting to earn the victory. Zuk was the winning pitcher throwing six innings allowing five hits and no walks while striking out six. Buehrle earned the save with three innings pitched allowing two hits.
          Millikin was held hitless over the first four innings by Marian starter Noah Imrie.
Frank Bryan had a one out double in the fifth for the first Big Blue hit. Freshman Tommy Shaw singled home Bryan to put Millikin on the board. Mason McGahey would drive home the second run of the fifth inning. Millikin added an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth. McGahey singled to open the inning. After Gabe Soria's sacrifice bunt moved him to second, McGahey scored on an RBI single from senior Kyle Kane.
          Robbie Knorr had two hits to lead the Sabres attack.
          The two teams will play on Sunday, February 28 at 12 p.m.
