Match Recap: Women's Tennis | | Morgan Vogels

Tennis Defeated by UW-Whitewater

The Big Blue men's and women's tennis teams traveled to Lake Geneva, Wis. Saturday, February 27 for a match against the Warhawks of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.

The Millikin women were up first and were defeated by the Warhawks 1-8. Taylor Milholland secured the lone victory for the Big Blue at #6, taking the first set against Whitewater's Mackenzie Lindow 6-3 and the second set 6-1 in singles play. 

In doubles, Brianna Barconi and Cristina Borunda lost to Courtney Day and Olivia Kraft in the first finished set. The team of Nikol Obradovic and Shelby Jones were defeated by Molly Reuth and Kasey Schlicht 3-8, and Katie Cooper and Destiny Galvan took a loss to the team of Bryce and Madalyn Bigelow 3-8.

Finishing up first on the singles side, Jones lost to Jessica Minkov 1-6, 0-6. Next up was Barconi who was downed by Sabrina Palavra 2-6, 1-6, followed by an Obradovic loss to UW-Whitewater's Paige Nierman 5-7, 1-6 at #1.Borunda was taken down by Kellie Ha, 4-6, 0-6 in the #4 match. Danielle Beard rounded out the singles matches with a loss to Bethany Marshall of the Warhawks 4-6, 0-6. 

On the men's side, the Big Blue were defeated 0-9. Finishing first in doubles play was Cory Erickson and James Broach with a loss to Ridley Aranda and Parker Hearne 1-8. Next, Jacob Palley and Nick Laramee lost to Whitewater's Alex Gray and Ryan Mitchell 2-8. Last, Holden Owens and Clayton Maack lost to Cole Lindwall and Noah Guillermo 5-8. 

In singles, Laramee faced off against Brayden Kopp at #4 and lost 0-6, 1-6. Maack was then defeated by Mitchell at #2 2-6, 0-6, and at #5, Erickson took the loss to Guillermo 2-6, 0-6. In the #3 singles match, Owens was defeated 1-6, 0-6 by Brendan Pietila. The final two matches to finish were Broach against Josh Guillermo at #6, who took a loss 1-6, 0-6 and Palley at #1 against Whitewater's Gray 4-6, 4-6. 

The men fell to 1-2 on the season and are slated to take on Principia College at the Decatur Athletic Club on Saturday, March 6. The women's team also fell to 1-2 with their next match scheduled for Sunday, March 7 at the Fairview Park Tennis Complex against Saint Ambrose University.
