Women's Volleyball Shuts Out Carroll

The fifth ranked Millikin Women's Volleyball faced off against Carroll University in their second conference matchup of the season. The Big Blue shut out the Pioneers, claiming a 3-0 victory. 

The Big Blue were led at the net by Madison Clarida and Tori Stuart, who each tallied eight kills. Stuart also notched four service aces. Lauren Brummel added seven kills, and Jessi Kreder chipped in six for MU. Sarah Bingenheimer set up the Big Blue offense, tallying 32 assists on the afternoon. Alyssa Vignos was the Big Blue's leader in digs with 16. 

In the first set, Millikin jumped ahead 5-3, and after a 7-0 run the Big Blue never looked back. Two service aces by Brummel finished out the early run, and MU took the set 25-11. The Big Blue did not trail once during the three sets.  

Set two was closer to start, with the Pioneers tying the match at 6-6. Once again, a Millikin run with Brummel serving helped the Big Blue jump out to a lead they never looked back from. MU took the set 25-12, finishing out the set on a 6-0 run including two service aces from Stephanie Holsinger. 

In the third set, Millikin also earned the victory 25-14, finalizing the sweep over the Pioneers. The Big Blue finished the day with 36 kills overall, and held Carroll to just 12 kills. 

For the Pioneers, Sam Penzkowski was their leader at the net with six kills, and Ashley Konecki Emily Konop led Carroll in digs with seven apiece.

The Millikin women's volleyball team will play their first road game of this season on Saturday, March 6 when they travel to Rock Island, Ill. to take on the Vikings of Augustana College.
