Match Recap: Women's Tennis | | Morgan Vogels

Tennis Takes Down Transylvania

The Big Blue men's and women's tennis teams matched up against Transylvania University in an indoor match held at the Decatur Athletic Club on Sunday, March 13. Both the men's and women's teams defeated Transylvania. 

The women were up first. In doubles play, Millikin picked up a victory at #3 with the team of Nikol Obradovic and Katie Cooper, defeating Christina Duvall and Erin Biddle 8-3. The team of Shelby Jones and Destiny Galvan at #2 lost to Alyssa Igyarto and Grace Gardner 1-8, and Brianna Barconi and Christina Borunda were defeated Porsche Robinson and Jessica Burton 1-8.

In singles, the Big Blue earned four victories to win the match 5-4. Jones defeated Gardner 6-3, 6-1. Borunda also picked up a win at #4, defeating Igyarto 7-5, 6-4. Taylor Milholland was victorious at #5 against Duvall 6-2, 7-5. Galvan picked up the last singles win for MU, handing a loss to Biddle 6-0, 6-3. Obradovic was defeated at #1 by Robinson 7-5, 6-3, and Barconi lost to Burton at #2 7-5, 6-3.

The men were up next, and they earned a 6-3 victory over the Pioneers. In doubles, Jacob Palley and Nick Laramee at #1 took the win over Arjun Gupta and Elijah Skaggs 4-2 when the match ended early due to an injury. This was the lone doubles victory for the Big Blue, as Holden Owens and Clayton Maack at #2 were defeated by Nick McNamee and Noah McNamee 3-8. Cory Erickson and James Broach lost to Jon-Michael Schulte and Jared Wells at #3 in a tiebreaker 7-8 (4-7). 

In singles play, Owens secured the first victory at #3, winning 6-0, 6-2 over Schulte. Palley also claimed victory at #1, defeating Nick McNamee 6-3, 6-1 in the second match to finish. At #2, Maack was also victorious defeating Noah McNamee 6-4, 6-4. The reigning CCIW Men's Tennis Player of the Week, Erickson, defeated Gregg 6-3, 6-1. Rounding out the singles victories for the Big Blue was Broach at #6, who defeated Wells 6-2, 6-1. 

The women improved their record to 3-2 heading into a conference matchup in Kenosha, Wis. against Carthage College on Friday, March 19. The men are set to take on North Central College on the road in Naperville, Ill. on Friday, April 2.
