Millikin Baseball Sweeps North Park to Open CCIW Season

The Millikin baseball team scored a road doubleheader sweep at North Park University in Chicago on March 20 to open play in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW).
 
In game one, Millikin won 12-5. Trailing 1-0 after four innings, the Big Blue rallied with four runs in the fifth and sixth inning. Millikin then broke the game open with a sixth run seventh inning before adding single runs in the eighth and ninth. Mason McGahey doubled home two runs in the fifth inning for the Big Blue. Andrew Auton homered in the sixth and Tommy Shaw followed with a triple and scored on a wild pitch. Brent Beals had an inside the park grand slam home run in the Millikin seventh.
 
Beals ended the game 2-4 with four RBI. Auton was 2-5 with three runs scored with a triple and home run. Kyle Kane was 2-5 with two RBI. Adam Zuk was the winning pitcher. Evan Lawrence picked up the save throwing three innings allowing three hits and no runs with six strikeouts.
 
Richie Silva was 3-4 for North Park in game one. Ranko Stevanovic added two hits for the Vikings.
 
The Big Blue won game two 8-1 behind the stellar pitching of junior Caleb Buehrle who pitched a complete game allowing eight hits and one run with 11 strikeouts.
 
Millikin opened the scoring in the second inning on a run scoring double in the second inning. Leading 2-1, the Big Blue scored three runs in the seventh and three more in the eighth to secure the win. Beals had a two-run double to highlight the Millikin seventh. Frank Bryan's two-run double sparked the eighth rally.
 
Beals and Bryan each had three hits for Millikin.
 
North Park's lone run was a solo home run from Ryan Mortisugu.
 
Millikin is now 9-1, 2-0 while North Park goes to 6-2, 1-2. The team teams will play on Sunday, March 21 at the Workman Family Baseball Field at 3 p.m.
