Baseball Improves to 10-1 on the Season

The Millikin baseball team continued its impressive start to the 2021 season defeating North Park 4-3 at the Workman Family Baseball Field in Decatur, Illinois. After winning all three games in the weekend series against the Vikings the Big Blue are 10-1 overall and 3-0 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW). Millikin's 10-1 record at the beginning of the season is the best start since 1947 when the Big Blue went 10-1 before ending the year 10-5. Millikin was 11-0 on the season in 1946.

Millikin trailed 3-0 heading into the bottom of the fifth, when Big Blue shortstop Mason McGahey doubled home two runs to make it a 3-2 Vikings advantage.  Millikin would take the lead with two runs in the bottom of the seventh. McGahey started the rally with a one out single. He stole second base and scored on a double from Kyle Kane. Kane would score the winning run thanks to two North Park wild pitches.

McGahey and Brent Beals each had two hits for Millikin.

Jared Buzan was the winning pitcher in relief with three scoreless innings allowing only one hit while striking out four. Beals pitched the final two innings allowing one hit to earn his second save on the season.

Jake Reinhardt was 2-4 for North Park with a double. Ranko Stevanovic was 2-3 with an RBI.

North Park falls to 6-3, 1-3.

Millikin travels to Illinois Wesleyan on March 24.
